On February 20, “ Spring Tour of Sci-Tech Correspondents” and “Agricultural Revitalization, Talent Empowerment, Giving Priorities to Science and Technology”, activities of commercialization of scientific and technological achievements were hosted by People’s Government of Wuhan Jiangxia District and Wuhan Science and Technology Bureau at the Home of Future in Jiangxia District. As a member of the innovation alliance unit of Wuhan science and technology correspondents, HZAU participated in it.
On the spot, Professor Chen Huanchun (a member of the Chinese Academy of Engineering) from the College of Animal Science and Technology and College of Veterinary Medicine, made a report entitled “Focus on China’s major needs, work hard for scientific research”. He proposed that in terms of agricultural modernization, we should continue to innovate, create and support start-ups, so as to promote social and economic development by pooling talents, applying science and technology, and developing industry. After analyzing the developing status of various agricultural industries at home and abroad comprehensively, Chen pointed out that agricultural development should improve production efficiency in the future. Furthermore, he analyzed the key points of increasing agricultural production efficiency through scientific and technological innovation, involving the seed industry of agricultural biology, feed and fertilizer resources, prevention and control of animal and plant diseases, pests and weeds, food processing, and ecological remediation and conservation.
On behalf of HZAU, Wei Peng, director of the Social Services Department of the Academy of Science and Technology Development, released the latest scientific and technological achievements. He focused on the new varieties, such as black rice Huamoxiang 5, brown citrus mutant ‘Zong Cheng’, the new rape varieties “Huayouza 62” and “Huayouza 158”, Chuxiang black pigs, Etong two-end-black, maize Dunyu 810, Shishan rape bolt, and Wuchang fish without intermuscular spines. Moreover, he introduced the first international “subunit vaccine of streptococcus suis-haemophilus parasuis”, convergent selection of a WD40 protein that enhances grain yield in maize and rice, liquid chip technology, top grafting technology eggplant trees and other new technologies. He hoped that people from all walks of life would actively join in the promotion of new varieties and technologies.
During the activities, Professor Liu Yongzhong (from the College of Horticulture & Forestry Sciences), Professor Zhang Xuezhen and He Shan (from the College of Fisheries), and Zhou Quan (deputy director of National Engineering and Technology Research Center for Livestock) signed contracts for the commercialization of scientific and technological achievements with Wuhan Xiaoyao Agricultural Technology Development Co., Ltd., Hubei Zhizheng Tianchen Biotechnology Co., Ltd., and Wuhan TianChu Technology Co., Ltd. respectively. Professor Wang Liping from the College of Horticulture & Forestry Sciences was invited to discuss with on-site entrepreneurs.
The “Technology Helps Rural Revitalization: Spring Tour of Sci-Tech Correspondents” is a series of activities carried out by Wuhan Science and Technology Bureau in cooperation with universities and research institutes. In the future, these activities will be carried out in other districts of Wuhan.
