On the afternoon of March 9, Huazhong Agricultural University held the promotion meeting for national innovation platform of integration between industry and education in biological breeding. Li Zhaohu (President of HZAU) addressed the meeting, and Yao Jianglin (Deputy Secretary of HZAU Party Committee) presided over it.
On the meeting, Zhang Yongjun (executive deputy dean of Academy of Science and Technology Development, HZAU) delivered a report on the innovation platform in the aspects of its background, overview, progress, arrangement, etc.
Yao Jianglin emphasized three perspectives to manage the national innovation platform construction: First, be fully aware of importance of the project to ensure the high-quality completion. In terms of sci-tech innovation, we should take industrial technology as foundation, and realize integrated development and technological innovation in concepts, modes and methods; In terms of talent training, through exploring the innovation in how and where to train, we would build a world-class sci-tech innovation and talent training center of pig breeding. Second, make proper plans of fund utilization. We need to actively seek for supporting funding and concentrate on the schedule to improve efficiency. Third, every unit should take their own responsibilities. In accordance with the project pledge and assignments, we should further coordinate our work and refine the schedule, to finish the construction with high quality.
Li Zhaohu put forward specific requirements to the construction project. First, raise our position and enhance the sense of responsibility. We need to plan and promote the project scientifically, and conduct the equipment purchase and construction work systematically, to improve the overall effectiveness of sci-tech innovation and talent training. Second, integrate resources and manage coordination. We should combine the innovation platform construction with the construction of “Double First-Class” Project and Hubei Hongshan Laboratory to avoid repetitive work. Third, increase the efficiency of construction work. We should boost the reform of talent training, discipline development and sci-tech collaborative research, contributing to the breakthrough in core technologies and training of innovative talents for national pig biological breeding.
The national innovation platform of integration between industry and education is one of the major projects during the 14th Five-Year Plan period to promote the construction of “Double First-Class” Project and serve the national major strategies, launched by National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC) and Ministry of Education (MOE). It focuses on supporting the talent training, discipline construction and sci-tech breakthrough in the fields of integrated circuit, energy storage technology, biological breeding and medical science. Since 2021, HZAU has seized the opportunity and taken all the possible advantages to promote the platform construction. In December 2022, NDRC and MOE officially approved HZAU’s research report on the construction of the national innovation platform of integration between industry and education in biological breeding, with pig breeding as its key research field. With a total investment of 435.4 million RMB, the platform gathers its construction expenditure from four aspects including the central-budget investment, local government support, enterprises support, and the university self-financing. The project construction period is three years.
