(Report/Gong Xin) On Mar. 18, the “Academic Symposium on Frontiers of Life Sciences” was conducted at HZAU both online and offline, hosted by Journal of Genetics and Genomics (JGG) and co-organized by HZAU and Wuhan University. The symposium featured presentations by scholars in the fields of animals and plant genetics, who discussed the latest advances in their respective areas. Over one thousand teachers and students participated in the event. Prof. Yan Jianbing (vice president of HZAU) and Prof. Kenichi Tsuda (College of Plant Science & Technology of HZAU) presided over the symposium.
On behalf of HZAU, Prof. Yan extended welcome to the participants and spoke highly of the high-quality development of JGG. Zuo Jianru (director of State Key Laboratory of Plant Genomics, editor-in-chief of JGG) addressed the opening ceremony, introducing the academic positioning, operation and development goals of the journal. He pointed out that JGG has made continuous progress in both the quantity and quality of papers submission, and its reviewing, editing, publishing processes have also improved in efficiency.
During the conference, scholars from various esteemed institutions in China presented their academic reports on a range of topics: crop yield, plant stress, microRNA regulation, regulation of porcine muscle development, animal blood genetics, functions of 30nm chromosomes, spatiotemporalomics of animals, and gene expression regulation mediated by RNA modification. The attendees, including teachers and students, also actively engaged in the discussion.
Among the distinguished scholars were Fu Xiangdong (researcher of Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology, Chinese Academy of Sciences), Liu Feng (researcher of Institute of Zoology), Yang Yungui (Beijing Institute of Genome Research), Jing Naihe (Guangzhou Laboratory), Prof. Guo Yan (China Agricultural University), Prof. Qi Yijun (Tsinghua University), Prof. Li Mingzhou (Sichuan University), and Prof. Li Guohong (Wuhan University).
Prof. Kenichi Tsuda summarized the symposium, stating that it was a valuable platform for communication and exchange in life sciences. He acknowledged the wealth of content covered in the symposium including many a technology frontier in the field of plants and animals, which provided an opportunity of in-depth communication and cooperation in this field.
The 1st Editorial Boarding Meeting of JGG in 2023 was held on Mar. 19 at HZAU. As one of the editorial board members, Yan Jianbing attended the meeting where the participants discussed on the development direction and promotion ways of JGG. Prof. Li Lin, Prof. Xie Kabin and Prof. Su Handong of HZAU were elected as the young editorial board members of JGG.
