On September 1, Wang Qiyang, Secretary of Xiangyang Municipal Party Committee, and Zhang Xuelin, Deputy Mayor of Xiangyang, visted HZAU to promote cooperation between Xiangyang and HZAU. Gao Chi and Yao Jianglin, the Secretary and the Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of HZAU, attended the meeting.

At the meeting, Zhang and Yao respectively introduced the progress in the construction and preparation for the operation of Xiangyang Modern Agriculture Institute, also known as the Xiangyang Academy (hereinafter referred to as “the Xiangyang Institute”). Mr. Xu Yong, chair of board of Hanjiang State-owned Capital Investment Co., Ltd. reported on the construction of teaching facilities and research and experiment bases of the Xiangyang Institute.
Wang stressed that a more collaborative and inclusive long-term cooperation between the two sides totally accords with China’s plan to become a leading country in education, science, technology and talents. The plan was proposed during the 20th National Party Congress in 2022. HZAU plays a leading role in national science and technology, and Xiangyang is an important agricultural city in Hubei Province and even in China. The Xiangyang Institute aimed to being an influential paradigm of the training of talents and the transformation of scientific research achievements through bilateral efforts. Wang hoped all-round cooperation would be strengthened, and more top and innovative talents developed, transforming Xiangyang from a city with high agricultural output to one with a leading edge in agriculture.
Gao highly acclaimed the remarkable progress of the Xiangyang Institute in a short span of three years. Such achievement should be attributed to Xiangyang government’s efficiency and contribution concerning the project, he said. A paragon integrated with education, production, science and research needs to be established, in order to educate top talents who can help make China a country with a leading edge in agriculture. It also aims to contributing to China’s agricultural modernization and making metropolitan areas in Xiangyang of high quality. Both sides would strive for continuous improvement, optimize the educational environment, and ensure the quality of teaching by creating a rich learning environment. The University will provide the best education for students and pursue higher teaching standard at the same time. Besides, the integration of multi-disciplines and the synergy between academia and industry will be advanced in Xiangyang city.
